From the airport to the center of Rome by train
There are many transportation services available at Rome airport. The Rome Fiumicino airport has a train station inside, it is located in front of the arrivals of Terminal 3 and is particularly convenient for reaching the center of Rome.
The connections are operated by the main Italian railway carrier: Trenitalia. There are 2 trains:
- the Leonardo Express, a direct train that connects the airport with Roma Termini station,
- and the regional line FL1 which instead connects Fiumicino with the Roma Tiburtina station.
For both lines, tickets can be purchased both online and at the station. Children up to 12 travel for free. Pets must travel in the pet carrier.
The main train stations in Rome

Roma Termini station is the main transport hub of the Eternal City. High-speed trains pass through here, with which to possibly continue the journey to the rest of Italy, and the main interregional connections terminate. The two metropolitan lines (A and B) pass through Termini Station.
The new and modern Roma Tiburtina train station is the second most important station in Rome. Line B of the subway, some high-speed trains of the two main Italian companies (Trenitalia and Italo) pass through here, as well as the regional lines FL1 and FL2. Roma Tiburtina Station is also the terminus for many urban, interregional and international bus lines.
From the airport to the center of Rome by bus
From Rome Fiumicino airport, reaching the center of Rome by bus is certainly the cheapest solution, however it will be necessary to take into account the inconvenience of car traffic which, especially during rush hour, can cause delays. Average bus travel times are 45 minutes in optimal traffic conditions, up to 60/70 minutes in heavier traffic hours.

Sit Bus Shuttle
The Sit shuttle buses depart from Fiumicino airport in front of the arrivals of Terminal 3, dock n. 5, every 30 minutes. The line operates from 08.30 to 00.30 and connects the Leonardo Da Vinci airport with Termini Station and the Vatican City (the stop is in Via Crescenzio, about 5 minutes walk from St. Peter’s), at a cost of 6 euros.
Cotral
Cotral stop at Rome Fiumicino airport is located in front of Terminal 2, in the Arrivals area (follow the signs for “Regional Bus Station”). The Cotral bus that leaves from the airport towards Rome stops at the stations of:
- Roma Termini (in Piazza dei Cinquecento)
- Rome Tiburtina
- Cornelia, (Metro Line A)
- Eur-Magliana, (underground Line B)
Atral-Schiaffini
The Schiaffini airport buses make a direct connection, with departures every 30 minutes, between Fiumicino airport and Roma Termini station. The cost of the ticket is € 5.90 (discounted to € 8.90 for round trips).
The buses are comfortable and equipped with Wi-Fi on board, they leave from the shelters in front of the arrivals exits of Terminal 3 of the airport, bus stall n.8.
TAM
The buses of the TAM company are located next to the exits of Terminal 3, bus stall n. 6, and connect the airport with the Roma Termini station and with the Ostiense station (in front of Eataly). The cost of the ticket is 6 euros.
Terravision
Terravision Rome airport buses also depart every 30 minutes from the arrivals of Terminal 3, at bus stall no. 7. The ticket costs € 5 for each route. The bus connects the Rome airport with Termini station.
From Rome airport to the city center by taxi
Taxi service at Rome Fiumicino airport is available at the Arrivals of Terminals 1 and 3.
